Okay, so really it is more of an apple flambé, but it was more fun choosing a new name. My husband turned 30 today. Yes, he is old. That is obviously not true but it’s sure fun to tease him. Usually I make my famous apple pie, but this year he relented and let me try something new…. I love apple pie but when that’s what you make for everything it gets a little dull.
Forgive the picture, my husband took it with his cell, as I was a little busy trying not to burn my kitchen down.
1/4 cup Brown Sugar
2 T Butter
1/4 cup Dark Rum
2 T Brandy
Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream (or other good quality ice cream)
Slice your apple and set it aside. In a pan on med high melt butter. Add brown sugar and stir continually. When mixture starts to boil add the apples. Cook until soft, but not mushy. Add alcohol and tip towards flame. The alcohol itself doesn’t catch on fire, the vapors do. Watch the magic happen and add a little cinnamon to the flames.
Serve hot over a bowl of ice cream.
* Flame will be pretty high at first, so remember loose clothing, hair, low ceilings, and other items are flammable.
